ORGANIZE

  • create folders
    • images
    • sound
    • clips
  • outline/storyboard
  • works cited

ADD AN EVENT

  • select imovie library
  • file>add event>event
  • you can use the import tool but it’s easier to drag and drop from your desktop folder

CREATE A NEW PROJECT

  • select create on the top navigation bar and select movie
  • select no theme (your choice here)
  • name your project

LAYOUT

  • top left window shows media you can use for the project, this is the project library
  • top right window is the viewer and shows what you are doing to the clips in timeline
  • bottom window is the area where you drop medium and can edit the footage, this is the timeline
  • you can swap the viewer and the timeline
  • viewer shows stuff real time
  • left toolbar is the medium
  • go to project folder to find your project
  • adjust how zoomed in or zoomed out you are with the slider in the upper right corner of the timeline
  • Grow clip size to make them bigger and easier to cut
  • Orange bar that moves around is the playhead and locates where play will start

ADDING FILES

  • Drag and drop from desktop or from the events folder that you created
  • Select images and drage and drop
  • Select piece of footage by skimming of footage and clicking where you want to select. Drag arrow to the right and then push plus sign or drag and drop selection to the working area
  • You can use materials from any events

ADDING TEXT

  • select style and drag and drop
  • select the text box and double click the text
  • use the top navigation bar to choose font, color, size, justification, ect

CLIPPING FOOTAGE/TIMING

  • drag footage around
  • use the arrows on the edge of the footage to shorten or lengthen
  • command b splits and let’s you also delete unwanted footage
  • double click in between footage to pull up the precision editor that allows you to see more clearly how things line up
  • to slow certain pieces down, split up the piece from the rest of the footage. Double click the selected footage and select the speed editor. Pulling to the left makes the rabbit appear meaning the speed is faster. Pulling to the right makes the turtle appear meaning the speed is slower. To be more precise you can select the footage you want to alter. Select modify (slow mo is you want it slow) and select your speed

  • fit to frame

ADDING VIDEO EFFECTS

– top navigation bar

TRANSITIONS

  • lower sidebar navigation
  • select the one you want and drag to timeline workspace
  • suggested cross dissolve and fade to black or white

ADDING AUDIO

  • drag and drop audio files onto track
  • select show wave forms
  • select audio skimming under view to listen while you cut (shift s)
  • fade in and fade out little dot on the edge of the clip
  • split the clip to adjust different audio levels (command b)
  • adjust audio level with arrow in the middle
  • audio adjustments bar up top (command 3)
    • speaker adjusts the loudness- this is how you manually adjust the loudness!! sooo much easier
    • change equalizer to enhance what you want
    • audio effects
